Automatic updates

How do automatic updates of plugins from the Pluggies store work?

How it works

The Pluggies plugins receive updates directly from the Pluggies store, without going through the public repository of WordPress.org. However, nothing changes for you: updates appear exactly like any other plugin, on the usual Plugins page of the WordPress dashboard.

When a new version is available, WordPress notifies you with the usual alert (the red dot next to the Plugins entry and the message under the plugin name). From there, you can update with one click, just like you usually do.

Pluggies automatically checks for updates and rechecks the license status once a day in the background, without slowing down the dashboard.

License and updates

For paid plugins, automatic updates require an active license on that site. As long as the license is active, new versions arrive automatically on the Plugins page.

If the license is not active (never entered, expired, or deactivated), that site will not see new updates for the plugin. The plugin continues to function normally, but to start receiving updates again, you need to activate a valid key.

Free plugins are an exception: they always update, without needing any license.

See the alert “license not active. Automatic updates and settings are blocked” on the Plugins page? It’s normal: activate the key from Pluggies → Licenses and the updates will reappear.

For the complete activation procedure, refer to the guide Licenses and Activation.

Updating a plugin

When a new version is available, updating takes just a few seconds:

  1. In the WordPress dashboard, open the Plugins menu and then Installed Plugins.
  2. Look for the Pluggies plugin to update: under its name, you will see the alert that a new version is available.
  3. Click on Update Now.
  4. Wait for WordPress to download and install the new version: when finished, you will see the update success message.

Alternatively, you can update multiple plugins at once from the Dashboard → Updates screen, selecting the desired plugins and clicking on Update Plugins.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t see the update. What should I check?

In most cases, it depends on the license: open Pluggies → Licenses and check that the plugin tab is Active on this site. If it is not, enter and activate the key. Remember that paid plugins receive updates only with an active license, while free ones always update.

If the license is active but the update still does not appear, WordPress may not have checked again yet: go to Dashboard → Updates and click on Check Again to force the check.

Should I make a backup before updating?

It’s always a good practice. Before updating any plugin on an important site, it’s wise to have a recent backup of files and the database, so you can revert back in case of issues. It’s not mandatory for Pluggies updates, but it’s the recommended practice for any update in WordPress.

Can I choose between automatic and manual updates?

Yes. Pluggies updates behave like those of any WordPress plugin: normally, you apply them manually with one click when the alert appears. If you prefer, you can enable automatic updates from the Plugins → Installed Plugins page by clicking on Enable Automatic Updates next to the plugin. In both cases, an active license is still required for paid plugins.
